Willie Mae Hunter’s Story

Willie Mae Hunter

My name is Willie Mae Hunter. I was born December 11, 1922, in Gray, Georgia to Willie

and Mary Holmes. I had 5 sisters; I was the middle child. I am the only one that is left,

they all are with Jesus.

I came to Michigan in 1959 to join my sister. My first job was working for A & P in Detroit,

this was the first A & P, it was a very small store. We cut our own meat, pork chops,

steaks, and chicken. I worked for A & P for 36 years before I retired.

I met my husband at A & P, he brought his mom to shop. He kept asking me to come to

his home for a date, 3 months later I let him take me out, we dated for 2 years. I

married Charles Hunter on August 8, 1958.

We had 1 daughter, Cynthia, born in 1961.

I retired from A & P in 1979 at the age of 57.

My husband Charles died November 11, 1999, from cancer. I cared for him at our home

until he went home to be with the Jesus.

I moved out of Detroit to Southfield in a Senior Living apartment on August 7, 2007 and

continue to live there.

I found out about Brightmoor when I was attending a Kenneth Haglin Camp meeting in

Tulsa, Oklahoma. A lady (Thelma) told her about Brightmoor, a guest speaker was going

to speak at Brightmoor on a Wednesday evening. I attended that Wednesday evening

and would attend Brightmoor occasionally but once I moved to Southfield, I made

Brightmoor my home church in 2007.

I was very active with the Brightmoor Prime Timer’s. Attending the trips: Savannah

Georgia, New York, as my last trip was to Canada for 1 week. I am the one that gave

Pastor Tim the idea of the starting senior trips.

I would like the Church family to know: the Lord is so very good, and He will carry you

through anything in life, I am so very thankful that the Lord is a GOOD God. He has

carried me through so much in my life: COVID in 2020 where I was in the hospital for 1

month and then Rehab for 1 month, a Heart attack in 2021, and brain surgery in 2022

from a brain bleed.

I am so thankful I know the Lord and He wakes me up every morning. I love Him so very

much.
