Phil & Christy Milbrandt’s Story

The week of prayer at Brightmoor holds a special place in our hearts. Five years ago, during January of 2020, Christy and I experienced a profound miracle that we believe was a testament to the power of prayer.

It all began with the worst headaches Christy had ever experienced. The pain started on a Friday evening, and we even went to the ER, but they couldn’t find anything and sent her back home. By Sunday, the pain was so unbearable that Christy couldn’t attend church. On Monday, the first day of the week of prayer, she was still in immense pain and couldn’t join us. I went to Brightmoor and wrote a prayer request for her, hoping the headaches would leave because we were supposed to go to Florida later in the week. Christy had trained diligently to run her first marathon at Disney World.

Tuesday was a struggle as we tried to run errands, but Christy’s pain made it nearly impossible. That evening, I returned to Brightmoor to pray for many needs, including my wife’s excruciating headaches.

On Wednesday, Christy followed up with her doctor, who sent her for a CT scan. That afternoon, they discovered she had a ruptured brain aneurysm. She was airlifted to downtown Detroit for immediate treatment. I sent a text message prayer request to Pastor Jamie and the deacon board. That night, during the week of prayer, they specifically prayed for Christy. Knowing that hundreds of people in the Brightmoor family were praying for us was a tremendous blessing.

Christy underwent numerous procedures and surgeries while in the hospital, and the Lord answered our prayers day after day. After 24 days, she left the hospital completely healed. She followed up with therapy for a few weeks and was cleared with no impairments. Her neurosurgeon later told us that her recovery was better than 99% of all aneurysm patients, many of whom either die immediately or suffer severe disabilities. He was amazed at her excellent recovery.

Her aneurysm was big, but our God is bigger. He brought us through every step of the way. Christy and I have attended every week of prayer since then because we understand firsthand how vital it is to our church and to everyone who writes down their prayer requests.
