Some of these men have played together for eighteen years. Some will pick up a club for the first time in April. The league is built so both of them have a good Monday.
You play as a two-man team in a match play format. Bring a partner, or sign up alone and we will pair you.
Handicaps are recalculated every week from your last three rounds, so a scratch golfer and a weekend hacker play a close match.
Teams can carry three or four men splitting two spots, if you cannot make all fifteen weeks.

The Clair
Martin Jug
3,200 yards from the tips, elevated tees and greens, and long views out across Oakland County.
The Alonzo and
Zula Bates Cup
2,670 yards over two sets of tees. Undulating greens and a set of par 3s that will take a shot off you.
Fifteen Mondays from April, and one team out of ten gets their names put on the silver.

Two cups. One name
at a time.
Every August the winning names are engraved onto the trophy and it goes home with the champions for the year. Clair Martin won the jug that carries his name in its first season.

The Alonzo and Zula Bates Cup
Kevin and Darren Whitefield have taken the jug five times. Bill Ward has won it with his sons Nick and Josh in four different years. And Senior Pastor Jamie Kjos is a four-time champion himself, which he will mention.

Fifteen Mondays,
April to August.
Week one tees off in April. Assigned tee times, no shotgun start.
Top six teams play each other again. The bottom four do the same.
First plays second, third plays fourth. The cup is decided here.
The week after the championship. Prizes handed out, and the new names go on the trophy.
It is a church league, and we mean it.
The league is a ministry of Brightmoor Christian Church. Three things are asked of everyone who plays.
Be in church twice a month
The league grows out of the life of the church, not alongside it.
Honour Christ in your language and conduct
On the course and off it. A bad hole is not a licence.
Encourage the men you are playing against
Good sportsmanship is the point, not a side effect.
The Brightmoor
Golf Classic
Once a year the league throws its doors open. A four-person scramble with a shotgun start, breakfast, lunch and prizes. You do not need to be in the league, and you do not need to bring a team.
Ten teams per cup.
Then it closes.
Your season fee covers

Registration opens
February 2027.
The 2026 season is finished. When sign-up opens you will name your teammate on the form, or say you need pairing and we will sort it. Paid by credit or debit card.
How it is scored, and what to expect.
Match play by the hole
Team scores are combined and adjusted for handicap. Lowest net wins the hole. One point for a win, half for a tie.
Weekly handicaps
Your average comes from your last three rounds. The weekly handicap is 70% of the gap between the two team averages.
Double par maximum
Reach double par without holing out, pick up and circle it. A circled hole loses unless both teams circled it.
Ready golf, two and a quarter hours
Play when you are ready rather than strictly by distance. Go to your ball, be prepared, keep the round moving.
If you cannot make it
Text your coordinator and your partner. A missing player scores their average plus four. Late arrivals forfeit missed holes.
Weather and attire
Play goes ahead unless the course closes. Rainouts go out by text. Traditional golf attire and soft spikes.
